• Incredibly qualified instructors: We require our instructors to have numerous certifications and trainings before we are comfortable with them joining our team. Although we hire from universities, we still require these instructors have a focus in education and an impressive history in the outdoors. All staff goes through a three-part interview process and thorough background checks, not to mention checks with previous employers. We are confident that our staff will be a part of what makes your child's experience with OWLS one to remember.

 

• Community service focus: Giving back to the communities in which we recreate is something that we believe to be paramount in our programs. Although we are a wilderness leadership school, we understand that the two do not necessarily ride hand-in-hand throughout every child's life, and understanding how the skills they gained while outside can be applied in "the real world," is incredibly important to us. That is why each of our programs offers a community service aspect that gives back to the communities at large, as opposed to just the natural communities. 

 

• A passion for transference: Of course, passing on transferable skills is important to other leadership schools, but to us it is one of our biggest considerations. Again, we understand that not every student will carry on to be an outdoor leader. We want the leadership skills gained on our courses to be stressed as skills that can be used in any context, and we hope that our students use them back at school in any way that suits their interests and career goals.
